This Sunday, Muslims in Serbia celebrate Kurban Bayram, one of the two most important Islamic holidays.

Congratulations have been extended by the top government officials and religious leaders. Deputy Reis-ul-Ulema of the Islamic Community of Serbia and Serbian Mufti Muhamed Jusufspahic said that an agreement is needed, which will enable Muslims to belong to their faith, while respecting the country in which they live.

Chief Mufti of the Islamic Community in Serbia Muamer Zukorlic pointed out that the past few years proved that a threat to the Islamic community upsets all citizens, and causes destabilization. He stated that the united Islamic community is a pivot of all Muslims and is one of the pillars of stability of the state and society. Serbian President Boris Tadic has congratulated the holiday of Kurban Bayram to dignitaries and all Islamic believers in Serbia, wishing them to spend the holidays in peace and good health with their loved ones, friends and fellow citizens.

Let the joy of the great holiday in our society, so rich in diversity, yet again confirm and affirm continuing commitment to true values, mutual understanding and respect, reads Tadic’s greeting. Minister of Religion and Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic, Assembly Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Belgrade Major Dragan Djilas and other officials have also extended congratulations to dignitaries and believers of the Islamic community.
