Serbia's Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic has initiated the procedure remove Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic and State Secretary for Finance Slobodan Ilic from their office. Ministers must be responsible for what they say and the government has to be united, Cvetkovic explained at a news conference.

He notified the president earlier on Monday about the decision, while Dinkic and Ilic were informed just prior to the news conference.

"I told President Boris Tadic this morning that the government cannot function like this and that those who undermine its unity should be replaced," the prime minister stated.

The parliament will receive the decision for review as soon as possible, Cvetkovic added.

According to him, Serbia has to stand united in order to go through with the reforms.

The decision does not target Dinkic's party, G17 Plus, but just those two individuals, the prime minister stressed, adding that he does not expect the government to fall over this.

The government will start searching for a new minister of economy within two weeks.
