The former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic has started receiving pension payments from Serbia.

Serbia pays him 39 Euros every month because he was during one year the last president of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia before the country dissolved.

"Ever since my retirement in February, when Ivo Josipovic succeeded me, I receive 39 Euros from Serbia every month," said Mesic who added that they have been regular with their payments.

He also has certain obligations toward Serbia – every six months he must send them proof that he is still alive.

Although the pension is small, he is happy about it because, he says, Serbia is paying him for having contributed to Yugoslavia's dissolution.

It is not a lot of money, Mesic says, but at the end of the year one can save a little to spend.
